  1. Take the long way home

How far might you want to travel? If you’re planning frequent visits, or you’re new to towing, will you want to spend hours driving before you get there? It might be a good idea to find somewhere no more than two hours’ drive – there’s also the fuel costs to consider!

  • The perfect spot

This point could influence the one above – where would you like to go on your holiday? Do you want to be in the forest, near the sea, close to a town or city? If you have a static caravan and don’t drive, you’ll also need to think about the proximity of public transport!

3. Canine conundrums

Not all caravan sites allow pets! So if you’re a dog owner wanting to take your four-legged friend away with you, it could be a good idea to find out about this. Make sure you’re happy with any doggy-related rules before making any commitments!

4. Facilities

What kind of park would you like to stay in? If you have children you might want to ensure there will be enough to keep them entertained! Also, check to see if Wi-Fi’s available, and how good is the phone signal?

5. Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

If you’re a static ‘van owner, it might pay to think ahead! Are you in a position where your requirements might change in the coming years? If you’re grandparents or parents with young children, you could want to plan ahead to ensure you’ll be able to get the most from your park in the long-term.

6. Reviewing the situation

Nowadays, it’s easier than ever to find reviews on any caravan site you’re considering! Get on the internet and read as many reviews as you can – don’t rely on just one or two, as they might not be representative of the actual story.

7. Lock it up!

How good is security at the site? Regardless of whether or not you have a touring or static ‘van, you’re still going to be leaving it in situ for periods of time. Speak to the site manager to get the lowdown. You might also want to read our tips for keeping your caravan secure against theft!

8. Try before you buy

Why not book in for a few nights at sites that pique your interest? By staying there you might be able to get a feel for whether it’s the place for you! It could also give you a chance to get going with our next point…

9. Any questions?

While you’re there, why not speak to some people who already own caravans at the site? They’ll be the ones who know the place best, and could give you the true lowdown on whether or not you would want to make the investment!
