CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL: GINA AND BILBO

Our pets often become our closest companions in life and it can be a tremendously worrying time if your beloved cat or dog falls ill. This stressful and very unsettling scenario is exactly what happened to our customer, Gina, when her cat, Bilbo, became unwell. Luckily, Gina had Bilbo insured and was able to claim for his treatment. At The Insurance Emporium, we want to try our best and make every claim as stress-free and straightforward as possible. Here’s what Gina had to say about her experience.

Their story

The wonderfully named Bilbo Baggins has lived with Gina and her mother for some years, “Bilbo came to us in 2013,” explained Gina, “he was a stray who knocked on our door one evening for cuddles and food and he never left us!” We all know how a four-legged friend can become a member of the family and it was no different with Bilbo! “He’s a huge cat, with fluffy being his middle name! He’s very vocal and lively and really is one of the family. We adore him!” With Bilbo being such a well-loved member of the Hardy household, it made it even more difficult and upsetting when he fell ill.

The illness

In mid-December last year, Bilbo was taken to the vets after Gina noticed a change in his appearance. “Our cat looked overweight but, in fact, his tummy was distended and tight because his bladder was blocked.” Vet s gave Bilbo a once-over and discovered that he had the biggest bladder they’d ever seen! This led to the vet taking MRI scans to check for tumours and examining his urethra to look for blockages, all in the hope of discovering the cause of Bilbo’s problems. Unfortunately, Bilbo hasn’t been given a clean bill of health quite yet. Due to poor nerve action making it difficult for him to pass water, he’s been having his bladder drained regularly.

Is it worth getting pet insurance?

When we asked Gina whether she thought it was really worth getting pet insurance for Bilbo she had no doubt at all. “Yes! Cats are very susceptible to things going wrong, considering their lifestyle.” Having insurance in place helped give Gina the peace of mind that she needed whilst Bilbo was enjoying his adventures and proved useful when something unforeseen did occur. It proved to be particularly helpful considering how difficult it’s been diagnosing his problems. “The process of having expensive specialist vets involved when you are unclear about your pet’s health is nerve-wracking”.

How was the claims process?

“The claims process has been very easy,” explained Gina, “we are so pleased that we insured with you… Everyone that mum and I have dealt with has been warm, friendly and helpful”. Receiving good customer service was vitally important to Gina, particularly when it came to her mother, “You have made life easy for my mum, who is 86, in terms of the ease and reassurance during each part of the process.” All-in-all it was a good experience following their claim for Bilbo, with Gina and her mother positively ‘purring’ following the service, “We have been dealt with very well and would like to commend you for your customer service”.

We are wishing Gina, her mother and Bilbo all the very best for the future and hope that Bilbo continues in his recovery. If you’ve got a cat of your own and Gina’s story has got you thinking that insurance for cats could be important, then it might be time to look into it.
