World's most treacherous cycling trails infographic

Mountain biking can lead to some really magical adventures, but some perilous ones as well! Bike trails all over the world climb mountains, cut through rocky woodland and traverse huge canyons. If you’re scared by heights, high speed or narrow pathways, you might want to look away! On the other hand, if you’re a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie ready to push your cycling to the limits, here are 5 of the world’s most dangerous cycling trails!

Maritime Alps

Death-defying routes through the Maritime Alps see cyclists navigating narrow mountain trails set among almost vertical cliffs with no ground in sight. You wouldn’t want to take a tumble on these tricky trails!

The White Line, Arizona

Viewed from afar, riding the White Line looks like an impossible feat. It’s certainly one of the most hair-raising challenges in cycling today! We don’t know what’s more nerve-wracking; the downhill 180 degree turn, or the audience you’ll almost certainly have from below!

“Death Road”, Bolivia

Commonly known as “Death Road”, Yungas Road in Bolivia has a reputation that precedes it. It’s believed in Bolivia that the dead now protect the passengers who use the road today. If you brave the narrow routes and sheer drops of the road, you’ll enjoy stunning scenery and picturesque views of forested mountainsides. Just watch out for oncoming traffic, as the road is still used by some drivers!

The Whole Enchilada, Utah

Deep in the heart of Moab, while riding the 26.5 miles of the Whole Enchilada trail, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and canyons… If you can stomach the heights! Porcupine Rim is the standout section, with narrow, rocky trails atop steep cliff sides.

Psycho Rocks, Colorado

Tricky bridges, drops over 12 feet high and, of course, a huge amount of rocks could catch out the unprepared on this double black diamond trail! This perilous route has cyclists careening down the steep gradients of the Rocky Mountains, navigating tricky forest floors strewn with rocks while cycling alongside picturesque mountain streams. For expert riders only!
