Read The Not Small Print

We dislike jargon and we like to be upfront and clear with customers, but occasionally there are words that we need to use so we've put them in this helpful box of not small print!

This is based on an Overseas Wedding with the Amber level of cover and no Elective Benefits selected.

Who is able to purchase the wedding insurance policy?
Our wedding insurance policies can be taken out by either the bride, groom, civil partner or a parent/legal guardian of the bride, groom or civil partner.

When should we take out wedding insurance?
You can take out wedding insurance as soon as you make any bookings or pay any deposits towards your wedding. Insurance can be taken out up to 2 years prior to the wedding or up to 10 days before the big day.

Does the wedding venue need to be booked before I take out wedding insurance?
Although you must provide the dates for the ceremony/reception when you take out the policy, if you do not know the venue/address you can still purchase the insurance policy. However, you must inform us of the venue/address as soon as it has been booked to ensure your policy is kept up to date.

I have already paid a deposit for my wedding. If I now take out your wedding policy, will this deposit be covered?
Yes, we cover costs for deposits paid before the inception of the policy. However, the policy will not cover any claims for bankruptcy, liquidation or failure to meet contractual obligations of any supplier that occur either before the policy start date/time or within the first 14 days of the policy start date/time.

Will my wedding be covered if it is in a marquee?
Unfortunately, we do not offer cover for marquees on our overseas wedding policy.

We are having a wedding with ceremonial swords, does your policy cover this?
Unfortunately, we do not offer cover for ceremonial swords on our overseas wedding policy.

I hold a British passport and currently live overseas. I will be holding my wedding overseas, am I able to take out an insurance policy with you?
Unfortunately, we are only able to offer insurance when the following stipulations are met: the policyholder and the bride, groom or one of the civil partners must be a permanent resident living in the UK. The policyholder can be living in the UK on a visa. To be a permanent resident, the policyholder's main residence must be in the UK and they must not have been abroad for more than a total of 6 months in the last year.

We are planning to hold the ceremony and reception on different days, will this be covered by your policy?
Yes, the policy can cover ceremony and receptions held up to 56 days apart.

We are having two ceremonies/two receptions, will this be covered by your policy?
Yes, the policy can cover up to two ceremonies and two receptions. This includes weddings where there may be a separate ceremony/reception in the UK as well as overseas.

Does the wedding insurance policy also include cover for my honeymoon?
No, you will need to purchase a separate travel insurance policy. A quote for travel insurance can be provided here.

Would your policy cover a situation in which my partner, a member of the armed forces, is posted overseas?
The cancellation and rearrangement section of the policy includes cover for the unforeseen posting overseas of a member of the UK armed forces or unavoidable and necessary duty for the Ambulance Service, Coastguard, Fire Brigade, Police or nursing personnel which prevents either partner from attending the wedding.

Would your policy cover the cost of cancellation if one of us gets 'cold feet' before the ceremony and decides not to proceed?
Unfortunately, our policy does not cover if either partner decides not to proceed with the marriage.

Will gifts of money and vouchers be covered under the Wedding Gifts section on the policy?

Does the policy cover if I damage or lose essential documents needed for my wedding to take place?
