First stop… France

Once you’re in mainland Europe, you won’t have to go far before you find a potentially ideal destination. The Normandy region of France is an area steeped in history, such as the world-famous island commune Mont Saint-Michel and the beaches made famous during the World War II D-Day landings. As you make your way up the coast, Caen could be a great spot to visit. The castle, Château du Caen, was built by William the Conqueror in 1060.

Second stop… Netherlands

The land of windmills, clogs, cheese and so much more! The flat open roads of the Netherlands could be the perfect destination for a jaunt in your caravan. Cycling fanatics might find this to be ideal, with cycle routes all over the country and lovely, wide lanes for you to safely travel around on your bicycle. Springtime could be the perfect time to head here and take in the beautiful tulip fields whilst exploring the small villages as you navigate through the Netherlands.

Third stop… Denmark

A long stretch up the coast from the Netherlands will bring you to Denmark. The capital, Copenhagen, is home to many palaces as well as the iconic ‘Little Mermaid’ statue, so there’s plenty to see. Outside of the capital, Roskilde could be the place to visit if you want to find explore the Viking heritage of Denmark, their Viking Ship Museum could be a great stop! It’s also the home of Northern Europe’s largest music festival where you can take your caravan, camp and enjoy some live music!

Fourth stop… Germany

Heading back down through Germany on the B500, or the ‘Black Forest High Road’, could be the perfect time to take in some amazing views with your caravan in tow! Cutting through the Black Forest, the road might not be one for nervous drivers but offers truly stunning scenery! The route is littered with caravan sites, so there are plenty of places to stop along the way. This could also be ideal for those keen skiers in winter!

Fifth stop… Switzerland

If you want to continue to take the high road, heading south out of Germany into Switzerland might be the ideal next stop. The Alps are famous for their mountainous panoramas and also boast some wonderful history. In the town of Thun you’ll find Thun Castle, perfectly preserved and built around 1200 it offers stunning views from its towers. If you’re in more of a mind to pamper yourself, the Leukerbad Therme thermal baths in Leukerbad might be well worth a stop!

Sixth stop… Italy

Moving down towards the Mediterranean and through Italy could be the perfect way to unwind having put in some serious miles on this epic road trip. Whilst it is undoubtedly beautiful, the Amalfi coast, with its narrow roads and tight turns might be an impossible route for caravans! If you’re tiring at this point in your journey and fancy some feet up relaxation, pitching up at one of Lake Como’s many caravan sites could be ideal! Tuscany could also be perfect for those looking to indulge in some fine art in Florence and wash it down in Chianti wine country!
