We’re always up for a magical adventure here at The Insurance Emporium. That’s why we’re excited to be taking part in the Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge in York on August bank holiday! With the race just around the corner, we’re busy getting our vehicle ready to roll. Here’s how things are going so far.

What’s going on?

For the third year in a row, the Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge will see teams pushing their contraptions down a six-foot ramp and a historic, cobbled street, where they’ll encounter various obstacles along the way! All the while, each team is raising money for charity. This year, The Insurance Emporium is entering its own soapbox into the race!

Why we’re in it to win it

With such an exciting racing adventure happening right on our doorstep in York, we just had to take part! The charities that we are fundraising for are none other than the four fantastic ones we work with: Dogs for Good, Medical Detection Dogs, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Canine Partners. You can help up raise money for these fantastic charities by donating to our JustGiving page!

You’ve got a fast cart…

To get a great soapbox up and running, we gathered some brilliant expertise! Our vehicle was built by somebody who had previously entered the race before and can reach speeds of up to 40mph! Unfortunately, the brakes were not working at first, so we got an expert in to replace them. Rest assured, they’re in perfect working condition now!

Cool-looking cart

We came up with the design of the soapbox in-house, putting together an idea that we feel represents our our brand and, of course, features the famous Mr Benn! The blue and turquoise colours were painted on by hand to make the vehicle feel as though it has rolled straight out of Festive Road and into real life!

Safety first!

To make sure that our soapbox is safe to use on the track, we attended a scrutineering event that was arranged by the organisers. As we’re such eager beavers, we even arrived one hour early! After testing, the vehicle was deemed safe to drive and the scrutineers were particularly impressed by the construction of the soapbox and its brakes – they even took it for a ride themselves!

We’re so excited to take part in the Micklegate Run Soapbox Challenge with our very own soapbox and are so pleased to be doing so for such amazing charities. Don’t forget that you can help with our fundraising efforts by donating here! And, of course, if you have some other kind of adventure of your own that you need protection for, stop by The Insurance Emporium today!
