At The Insurance Emporium, we love magical adventures, whether we’re taking part or even just hearing about them! That’s why we were delighted with your responses to our Find Your Adventure! competition. We asked the public to send in pictures of themselves and tell us about their ideal adventures for the chance to win one of ten £25 Amazon Vouchers. Choosing the ten best adventures was a tough decision but we think these ones are very deserving. Here are the winners and why we chose them!
Catherine told us that her greatest adventure is exploring mysterious islands. She sent us a picture of her visit to Easter Island, saying she “spent a thrilling few days trying to work out how they moved these gigantic heads”. We thought Catherine’s photo looked pretty exciting, with the famed heads constructed by the Rapa Nui civilisation between the 13th and 16th century. Visiting these ancient landmarks is something that few people get the opportunity to do in their lifetimes, so we thought this was cool enough to win!
It takes a lot of physical and mental strength, endurance and capabilities to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest freestanding mountain. That’s why we were so impressed by David’s five-day trek to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest summit on the mountain. He began the final ascent at midnight, while there was four inches of fresh snow on the ground. He got to stand by the sign at the peak, seven-and-a-half hours later, as he watched the sun rise. Sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime sight!
A world of adventure
It’s the dream of many to travel around the world, but it takes someone brave to go on a worldwide backpacking trip. Gemma did exactly this and it sounds like she had a number of exciting experiences in a range of different countries. Her travels included riding on a motorbike in Vietnam and going scuba diving in Thailand. We were so impressed with her adventures (if a little jealous!) that we thought she deserved to be a winner.
Sometimes the most rewarding adventures are ones that happen for a good cause. Mary told us about her journey to Romania, where she helped spay 100 stray dogs in two days. She worked alongside TV presenter Anneka Svenska and the founder of International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals, Nicky Stevens, to spay the canines. While there, she met a new furry friend who she adopted, took home and named Romana!
The High Life
They say you should do one thing every day that scares you but we think Helen took this to a new level on her adventure to New Zealand! Not only did she have the courage to do a sky dive over Lake Taupo, but she also made time to do a bungie jump in Queenstown. She described the trip as “a holiday of a lifetime”, so we can only assume that she isn’t scared of heights!
Trailing the Incas
Rose completed a lifelong ambition when she travelled along the Inca Trail in the Peruvian Andes Mountains to reach the famous settlement of Machu Picchu. She first got the idea of trekking to Machu Picchu when learning about the Incas at school and completed her goal 20 years later. We chose her as a winner because we were inspired by her persistence in following her dreams. She was literally leaping for joy in her photo!
Into the wild
You don’t always have to travel far to go on a great adventure. Three-year-old Evelyn’s biggest adventure was when she became a wildlife ranger for a day. She loved learning about the animals living in the reed beds that she explored. We think it’s great when young, inquisitive minds are encouraged to learn. That’s why we chose this entry, sent in by Jess, as a winner.
No need to stay putt
It’s great to see people take their passions on holiday with them, which is exactly what Neil did when he visited Lanzarote. He played four rounds at Lanzarote Golf, which, from the look of his photo, appears to be a stunning venue. It’s great to see that Neil found a way to pursue his hobby in a new and exciting location, which is why we chose him as a winner.
Most of us have seen pictures of the natural wonder that is the Grand Canyon, but few have seen it up close. Adrian did when he ventured to the bottom of it. While he described this adventure as a “fantastic experience”, he explained that the hike back up the canyon was challenging due to the intense heat. We thought this adventure was so impressive and unusual that Adrian deserved a £25 Amazon voucher!
Sometimes the greatest and most inspirational adventures are ones that achieve a greater good. An example of this is Laura’s fostering of rescue dogs. She said: “Seeing them go from being scared dogs to confident dogs makes it all worthwhile.” We definitely agree that this is an important adventure, so we thought Laura’s reward of a £25 Amazon voucher was well deserved.
