Your Story – Kate & Figgy, Cat Insurance

This time around, we’ve caught up with our customer Kate, to hear more about her cat, Figgy, and what led to her having to make a claim.

Background:

I grew up with dogs and got my first cat when I was a young adult. I love animals and how much they add to our lives.

I was looking for a cat, and thinking about how I would convince my husband who’d never had pets that cats were lovely, and spotted a local advert. All the siblings were ginger, my Figgy was the only grey and ginger cat like her mum. She walked straight over to me and the people selling her were convinced that we were meant to be.

That said, I thought I was buying a boy cat and it was only a few days later at the first vet appointment that I discovered “Finegan” would need a new name. Our friend’s little girl couldn’t say Finegan and was calling the cat “Fig-adan” so “Figgy” seemed like the perfect new name.

What’s your cat’s personality like and what are her favourite things to do?

Figgy is definitely a typical cat, doing things on her terms. She hates to be picked up but wants to be in the same room and come for a cuddle when she’s ready, not when we want it. She’s stubborn just like us.

Figgy learned to sit on command when she was small, and if we say, “time to go, Figgy” she’ll march out of our front room so we can close the door before we head out for the day. She likes to keep us in sight, and it sounds like she’s saying “hello?!” if she can’t find us or we’ve (rudely) closed a door and left her on the other side.

Choosing pet insurance:

I didn’t have insurance for my prior cats. A family member recommended it to us because he’d learned the hard way – he’d had a cat who’d fallen ill and they had to pay some huge veterinary bills out of their own pocket. I think of insurance in the UK as not free funds if something goes wrong, but something I’ve paid into should something go wrong. It’s peace of mind when you most need it.

How did you come to choose The Insurance Emporium?

I did some research online and used a comparison website to see my options for the level of cover and price point I had in mind. The Insurance Emporium met our needs and had a good rating.

Kate’s experience with The Insurance Emporium:

Figgy developed a growth on her face that the vet suspected was cancer. We got it removed and though it was a tough recovery, she’s back to her happy self. I don’t know if we’ve got a year or several years left with Figgy, but she’s happy and not in pain and that’s what’s important.

How did you find the claims process?

It was really easy – a fairly simple form to complete and our vet was fantastic at completing their part as well.

When speaking to staff, how did you find this experience?

It was good. I got a call within a week or two to confirm the decision and payment to reimburse us for a large portion of the procedure and associated medicines came soon thereafter*. It was a tough period for us, given Figgy was so poorly for a couple of weeks, and that meant we had one less thing to worry about.

I wouldn’t wish anyone to need to make a claim, but The Insurance Emporium was fantastic to work with, from start to finish.
