Background
When growing up and until I moved out of home, we had a family cat, but Ethel is the first cat/pet of my own. I got her a year after I moved into my first home.
Ethel is extremely loving and loyal; she is like my shadow. It’s no exaggeration to say that whenever I’m at home, she is with me or nearby. As I type, she is sitting on the table next to me, nuzzling me and purring. She is always there for me.
She is also cheeky and playful, and wilful. She talks all the time, chirruping. She also has a very loud purr. She’s quite nervy though, and at 16 years old, she still hides whenever anyone comes to the house, with the exception of my mum who she knows well.
Choosing Cat Insurance:
We never had our family cat insured when I was growing up; few people did in those days. It was only after my mum and stepdad took out pet insurance for their cat that I considered I would do the same if I ever had my own cat.
They had previously had a young cat who suffered very ill health over many years, and they didn’t have her insured; fortunately, they could afford to pay the veterinary bills, but it cost them an awful lot of money. They always vowed they’d take out pet insurance with their next cat, which they did. But it’s also much more common practice now I think, and more insurance companies offer pet insurance, which they didn’t years ago.
How Did You Come to Choosing The Insurance Emporium?
I’ve been with The Insurance Emporium for many years now. To be honest, I chose The Insurance Emporium and the policy because of the price for the level of cover I was looking for, and I was impressed by the good reviews I read online. Trustpilot reviews suggested it was a reputable company to choose.
I have stayed with the company over the years because I’ve been happy with the renewal cost, and it also becomes harder to insure cats after the age of 9 years old. Ethel is 16 now and this is the first claim I have ever made. Touch wood, I have been fortunate that Ethel has been extremely healthy.

Celia’s Experience with The Insurance Emporium:
Ethel developed a skin infection on her neck that failed to respond to the first treatments the vet prescribed her. The cost of several vet appointments and treatments quickly adds up, and so I decided that it made sense to look into making a claim.
How Did You Find the Claims Process?
I was pleasantly surprised. I had been reluctant to make a claim because of the reputation that insurance claims often have for being protracted affairs and lots of hassle. But from the moment I called to ask about the possibility of making a claim and what steps I needed to take, I couldn’t believe how genuinely helpful the advisor was and how easy they made the process.
The staff member I spoke to, and the staff I subsequently corresponded with, were delightful, and genuinely seemed to want to help. They were reassuring about what I needed to do, clearly explained the options I had when it came to how I could go about submitting a claim, and overall, they helped to make the whole process very smooth and straightforward. They advised me what information I needed to get from my vet and what would happen once they received the form from the vet.
I honestly couldn’t believe how swiftly the claim was processed following the confirmation that they had received the form from my vet. Staff updated me about the status of my claim, and I was impressed by how quickly I received the money into my account.
