THE IMPORTANCE OF CARAVAN TOWING MIRRORS

A common perception of caravanning is that it offers flexibility and liberty not often associated with other types of trip. Many people approach their touring caravan trips differently, but in essence it allows you to drive wherever you want, whenever you want. However, there are plenty of things you do need to take into consideration before you set off on your caravan adventure, like the dimensions of your outfit (your car and caravan), the size of vehicle your licence allows you to drive and fitting a tow ball, though hopefully the latter was obvious! You’ll also need to fit towing mirrors to ensure a view beyond the width of your caravan. Francis Newbury recently won in a pair of Milenco Grand Aero 3 Towing Mirrors through The Insurance Emporium’s Watch Your Back! competition, and he’s been in touch to give us his stamp of approval.

Seeing is Believing

Most people want to look good on the road, whether that’s having a particular set of alloys or just a car which is spick and span! But at the end of the day, safety trumps all else on the road, especially with caravans. Not having towing mirrors could result in a 3-point penalty, a £1,000 fine or even prosecution. There were no such issues for Francis, however, because he had his snazzy new mirrors with him and he was mightily impressed with range they offered. He said: “I just got back from caravanning. I used the mirrors and they give excellent vision!”

A Good Fit

As previously noted, there are a lot of things you need to consider well before your caravan adventure. Towing mirrors are one of them and the last thing you want is for them to be difficult to fit to your car, particularly if you’re running a little behind schedule and only remember them at the last second. Francis was keen to stress a lack of issues in that department, however, saying: “The towing mirrors were easy to fit. They hardly stick out past the normal mirrors.”

A Grand Design

The Grand Aero 3 is regarded as industry-leading. Its clamping system offers an improved grip than that of its predecessor, while vibration has also been minimised. Added to that, they offer better vision in terms of width and height, helping you avoid hazards on the road. Francis was particularly impressed with the extra vision considering the mirrors don’t stick out as far as smaller options. He said: “I’d recommend that anyone caravanning who needs good vision to purchase these mirrors. I noticed other people using the smaller ones of the same make – they did the job. But these mirrors are bigger without sticking out as far as the smaller ones, giving all-round, excellent vision.”
