Most Common Pet Insurance Claims

As dog or cat owners, you never want to be in a position where you have to make a claim on your pet insurance! We’re sharing information on some of the most common cat and dog insurance claims of 2018, as well as the most expensive, to show how pet insurance has been able to help some of our customers!

Common Canine Claims

The majority of vet’s fees claims for both dogs and cats in 2018 were for illness, rather than accident or injury. A huge 82.6% of vet’s fees claims on dog insurance policies were for illness. 11.4% of vet’s fees claims during this period were for growths cysts and tumours, and we paid an average of £583 per claim. The most expensive claim we paid out for this problem was for a Boerboel, and came to £7,895!

Common Cat Claims

In 2018, around 1 in 10 vet’s fees claims for cats were for urinary system issues, like feline lower urinary tract disease, which made our list of common cat illnesses to look out for. On average, we paid £484 for each claim for urinary system issues. Our two most expensive claims for cats with urinary system issues came to a total of £5,238 for a Moggie and £4,931 for a Ragdoll!

Expensive Cat Claims

Our feline friends are renowned for having nine lives, and according to our statistics it certainly looks like there might be some truth to this myth! Just one unlucky cat made it onto our list of the top 10 highest pet insurance claims of 2018. Coming third in the rankings was a cat involved in a road traffic accident, with a total claim for £14,239!

Expensive Dog Claims

An incredible 9 out of 10 claims in our top 10 highest pet insurance claims list were for dogs! In the top 5, we had a dog with hip issues, for which we paid out £13,711. £13,785 was paid for a dog with immune system issues. Second highest on our list was a dog that was having seizures, which paid out £14,512, and the highest value claim was £14,754 for a dog with back, spine and pelvis issues.
