Here, we caught up with Sharon to hear about her dog, Vinnie, and what led to her making a claim.
Background
My dog is called Vinnie and he’s a French Bulldog. We’ve owned dogs for over 30 years, Dalmatians, Great Danes, lots of different breeds, but now we’ve got a run of smaller dogs. Vinnie is our fourth Frenchie, he has a sister, Lola who’s also Frenchie. I like their breed for their personalities mainly as well as their size.
Choosing pet insurance:
Having had dogs for many years we’ve had pet insurance with several different insurance providers. I’ve never had a dog that’s had something go wrong as Vinnie has, in the first few months. With my other dog, Lola, I’ve been paying insurance for her for eight years now, and she’s had an eye ulcer a couple of times, you know, and that’s all really.
How did you come to choosing The Insurance Emporium?
We’ve changed from different insurance providers that we haven’t been with before with our other dogs and after some research when we got Vinnie we found The Insurance Emporium.

Vinnie developed some sort of itchiness quite early on from when we got him as a puppy. He was making himself quite sore underneath his armpits and his belly area. We noticed it in the morning, he would continuously scratch, and it progressed for a week or two, so I thought, maybe he had an allergy to something.
Even though we’ve had several dogs we’ve never really had a dog with an allergy, so we decided to go to the vets.
They said they couldn’t tell what was wrong or where the scratching was coming from and that we could do tests, but it wouldn’t necessarily be conclusive. Their recommendation was to give him injections that would stop it, once a month.
How did you find the claims process?
We didn’t put in a claim initially. After the first week that we’d taken him to the vets we weren’t sure how long it was going to go on for, and we weren’t sure if it’d be covered.
But when we did it seemed quite easy. We sent the form in, and it was much quicker than I thought, the money was paid out. It just seemed good.
