Your Story – Michelle & Pedro, Dog Insurance

This time around, we’ve caught up with our customer Michelle, to hear more about her dog, Pedro, and what led to her having to make a claim.

Background:

I currently have three Chihuahuas, Pedro, Oreo, and Nelly, I did have a Layla, but she passed away in January. I’ve always had dogs from being a kid, and horses. I’ve had Jack Russells, Terriers, Shelties, a Pug, I’ve had a good mix.

The Chihuahuas my daughter got me into because after she watched Legally Blonde, she said she wanted a Chihuahua. And then next thing you know, I’ve got a Chihuahua, and I’m obsessed. You can’t just have one, it’s two or three in my case.

I also have a boujee dog hotel for small dogs. I opened it in April (2025) because I already minded so many of my friends dogs and I thought I could do this as a business. It’s been a great experience so far and I’m loving it.

What’s your dog’s personality like and what are his favourite things to do?

Chihuahuas are just such a versatile dog – they’re so affectionate and lovable. Seriously protective, I think people think because they’re small they don’t need a lot of walking but mine will go all day and then they’ll sleep all night.

How did you come to choose The Insurance Emporium?

It was a good few years ago and I was with another insurance company, but the policy was too expensive for my budget, so I decided to look elsewhere. From my research I couldn’t find many insurance companies that would insure four dogs. Then I came across The Insurance Emporium and its multi-pet insurance.

Michelle’s experience with The Insurance Emporium:

I never had to use The Insurance Emporium for any claims because my dogs had always been healthy. But then my other dog, Layla, had a heart murmur which was completely out of the blue and that quickly escalated.

For everything that I had to deal with from the vets to all the medication, and doing the forms. There was not an issue, everything was put through, and I was kept updated.

Even when we got to the point where she needed to be put to sleep, there was so much compassion from The Insurance Emporium. We received a payment from her death which went towards the building for the dog hotel, so it’s a little legacy from Layla.

Now, unfortunately, with Pedro, he’s 10 years old and he is going through the exact same thing. At the moment his condition is manageable, and we don’t think it has escalated like it did with Layla. He’s just on medication now and we’ll need to keep on monitoring it.

How did you find the claims process?

It’s great. I was kept updated, even when you send in the claims form, I get an email to say we’ve got your claims form, and everything is okay. In three to five days the money will be in your account.

When speaking to staff, how did you find this experience?

I would probably say 80% of the time I’ve used the online portal. There have been a couple of occasions where I’ve had to ring up, such as at the beginning, and after Layla was put to sleep, I called because I wasn’t sure if it was covered because of her age. I spoke to someone, and they were really helpful.

A quote on why you’d recommend The Insurance Emporium:

I absolutely can’t fault The Insurance Emporium as a company. I had to write a review because I just think they’ve been absolutely incredible
