This time around, we’ve caught up with our customer Colin, to hear more about his dog, Gus, and what led to him having to make a claim.
Background:
We’ve had dogs and cats before. However, we didn’t have a dog in the run up to my retirement and knowing I would want one for when that time came, we attended Discover Dogs at Crufts with a shortlist of breeds we were interested in. We stumbled across a breed which wasn’t on our list, Basset Fauve De Bretagne and knew straight off that was the dog for us.
We contacted the few breeders in the UK that bred these lovely dogs, enquiring about registering our name for a pup. As luck would have it, one breeder did have a litter expected in a few weeks.
As it turned out the pup, now named Gus, was ready for collection the very next day after I retired. I think this was meant to be. A few months later another pup which had been held back for showing was made available and we jumped at the chance of owning the brother to Gus and became a two Fauve family.
What’s your dog’s personality like and what are his favourite things to do?
Gus is a great boy, really smart and obedient with beautiful gentle manners, a real gentleman. It hit hard when we found out all was not well, and Gus needed some proper intervention and care from our vet.
Choosing pet insurance:

Our previous experience with pet insurance has not been as we would have wished. We have made some claims on previous pets but found the process lengthy and frustrating, often being caught in a cycle between us, the vet and insurance company.
How did you come to choose The Insurance Emporium?
We chose the Insurance Emporium from our own research online and reviewing feedback from customers.
Colin’s experience with The Insurance Emporium:
The reason for making a claim for Gus was a lump we discovered under his fur. Further investigation by the vet revealed this was a cell mast tumour and surgery was required.
How did you find the claims process?
The claim process for us was seamless. The claim was dealt with by our vet liaising with The Insurance Emporium, providing the information requested. We were not hassled by The Insurance Emporium or asked endless questions, it was all super smooth.
A quote on why you’d recommend The Insurance Emporium:
I would recommend The Insurance Emporium whole heartedly. We needed them when our Gus was being treated for a tumour, they didn’t let us down and having one less thing to worry about made a big difference.

Here at The Insurance Emporium, we have a range of pet insurance policies including dog, and senior dog. Take a look and get a free, no-strings quote today!
