Your Story – Theresa & Aoife, Cat Insurance

This time around, we’ve caught up with our customer Theresa, to hear more about her cat, Aoife, and what led to her having to make a claim.

Background:

We have had cats now since the early 1980s. Although we have never gone out to choose a cat, we have constantly had strays turning up at our door. All efforts were made to find and return them to owners, working closely with the RSPCA and Cats Protection. Mostly, once checked over, those not returned to owners or rehomed were released back to our location and looked after by ourselves, eventually moving in. So rather than choosing them, they chose us.

We have always had multiple cats, at one time up to five, which was quite costly feeding them all, not to mention the vet costs.

Aoife, however, was quite different, we found her whilst on holiday in Ireland. The Gaelic name reflects her origins. She was very petite, living in a barn tending a litter of four kittens, fed on scraps and catching mice and rabbits to sustain them all. She was quite a proficient hunter and remains so even now. We captured her and the kittens, homed the kittens, arranged for Aoife to be neutered and have all her injections and a passport. Following quarantine, we returned and collected her.

From a horror start in life she has turned into a beautiful, curious, confident pet.

What’s your cat’s personality like and what are her favourite things to do?

She knows her own mind and does what she wants and on her terms. She knows her home and will always be tucked up cozy at night and in poor weather. She gets on well with our older cat Ollie and then there’s Jesse, who decided to move in whilst we were waiting to collect Aoife. All are microchipped and enjoy the freedom to come and go as they wish via the chip programmed cat door.

Choosing pet insurance:

Through the years we never really considered pet insurance, but on retirement a few years ago, whilst weighing up the cost of ever-increasing vet fees, with three cats at home we made the decision to get pet insurance.

How did you come to choose The Insurance Emporium?

With the help of a friend, and existing customer of The Insurance Emporium we followed their recommendation and signed up for three policies.

We found the policy information quite clear and costs, inclusions and exclusions easy to understand.

Theresa’s experience with The Insurance Emporium:

We took Aoife to the vets with a lump on her right ear, which after a few visits wasn’t responding to treatment. Following scans, she had the lump removed under anaesthetic which later tested as cancerous.

How did you find the claims process?

The claims process was quite simple, download the form filled in part one, leave it with the vets to fill in part 2 and send it in. Shortly after, a satisfactory payout was made*, no drama no quibble. As simple as that. All in all, the only question I have is, ” why didn’t we get insurance earlier?”.

We are so glad that we made this decision and very happy to have the reassurance that The Insurance Emporium gives us.

Here at The Insurance Emporium, we have a range of pet insurance policies including cat, and senior cat. Take a look and get a free, no-strings quote today!
