5 OF THE WORLD’S BEST DJS

Music is a constantly changing, evolving art form. The number of different styles we have seen throughout the centuries is immeasurable. From Handel and Beethoven to Elvis and The Beatles, genre and popularity shifts and adjusts and reverts and recycles. The second half of the 20th century was notable for the dominance of guitar music. Playing live music to an arena full of thousands of people was the bread and butter of bands from the Rolling Stones through to Coldplay.

However, in the mid-90s a new form of music began to gain in popularity. EDM (electronic dance music) and the DJs that play it, sprung from the electronic production of disco and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Nowadays, the true kings and queens of the popular music scene are the DJs. They command the highest fees, receive the most airplay and signpost the future path for music. But who are these movers and shakers? Have a look at our guide to 5 of the world’s best DJs to find out who could be taking you on a musical adventure this summer!

A cultural behemoth and Britain’s sole representative on this list, Calvin Harris, real name Adam Wiles, has been a bonafide superstar since clocking up his first number one way back in 2009. Since then he has notched up over a dozen top ten hits, such as Summer and Blame featuring John Newman, and two platinum selling albums. With such a star-studded back catalogue and acclaimed live act, it could be well worth catching the Dumfries-born DJ at one of his residency spots at Wet Republic Ultra Pool or Omnia in Las Vegas this summer

5. deadmau5

You could hardly accuse Joel Zimmerman, better known as deadMau5, of being the shy, retiring type.
